Cover Alert | Widespread Panic Busts Out Wish You Were Here

By Scott Bernstein Oct 2, 2013 9:00 am PDT

Jam titans Widespread Panic brought their fall tour to Shryock Auditorium in Carbondale, IL last night. To kick off their encore, Widespread Panic lit into a cover of “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd. The Georgia rockers hadn’t performed the Pink Floyd classic since a June 20, 2008 show in Los Angeles.

“Wish You Were Here” was a live staple for the band in the late ’80s and then disappeared for a nine year stretch between 1988 and New Year’s Eve ’97. The cover saw action a good bit in the next few years before it was shelved again after an October 16, 2001 performance. It has only been played seven times since 2003.
