Cover Alert | Umphreys Covers Huey Lewis Power Of Love

As we reported, Umphrey’s McGee made the most of their headlining appearances at Bear Creek over the weekend by welcoming a number of guests to share the stage with them on Friday and Saturday. The band also debuted a fun cover of an ’80s classic on Saturday night.

Umphrey’s has performed a number of Huey Lewis & The News hits over the years, many with Huey himself, but one that had gone unplayed before Saturday night was the 1985 single “Power Of Love” from the Back To The Future soundtrack. The Chicago rockers debuted “Power Of Love” towards the middle of their lone set on the penultimate day of this year’s Bear Creek. Drummer Kris Myers came to the front of the stage to lead the band through the tune, so New Mastersounds drummer Simon Allen stepped behind the kit for the cover. Umphrey’s was also assisted by the Lettuce horns of Eric Bloom and Ryan Zoidis. Watch fan-shot footage of how it went down by Shannon S:

Speaking of Umphrey’s McGee, those watching NBC’s Sunday Night Football last night might have noticed UM’s “Little Gift” used before a commercial break:
