Cover Alert | Trey Anastasio Band Tackles Ana Tijoux

By Scott Bernstein Jan 29, 2014 7:00 am PST

Last night Trey Anastasio and his band kicked off their Winter Tour with the first of two shows at Denver’s Ogden Theater. The show mainly featured a mix of material from 2012’s Traveler with TAB heavy hitters such as “Burlap Sack and Pumps,” “Mr. Completely,” “Sand,” “First Tube” and “Gotta Jibboo.” TAB also debuted a few numbers (Natalie Cressman tells us the originals are named “Silver Smoke” and “Pulsing Days”) at Tuesday night’s show including a cover of “1977” by Latin hip-hop star Ana Tijoux. You might be familiar with tune from its appearance in a 2011 episode of Breaking Bad or in the FIFA 11 video game.

Natalie Cressman raps the tune’s Spanish lyrics with gusto and flair, while Anastasio strums on acoustic, keyboards supply string accompaniment and Jennifer Hartswick delivers powerful trumpet bursts. Thanks to Fatah Ruark we can hear an audience recording of the Trey Anastasio Band’s “1977”:

As a bonus, take a listen to “Magilla” from last night’s show:
