For their intimate live session, a camera crew from the music site headed to the four-piece act’s hometown of New Albany, IN where they shot the band “out in the woods, on the banks of the Ohio River, and even sitting around the ‘Green House’ where they recorded that debut album.” While their stripped down acoustic versions of “Casino (Bad Things)” and “Penitentiary” certainly deserve your attention, it was their choice of covers that we wanted to feature.
Houndmouth’s take on The Band’s version of the classic murder-ballad “Long Black Veil” is right in their wheelhouse, but it’s the four-piece band’s unexpected take on Funkadelic’s psychedelic-soul tune “Get To That” that’s the star of the show. Houndmouth layer a hefty dose of bluesy guitar sounds and rock riffs onto their version of the Maggot Brain track. Let’s check both out:
Houndmouth recently kicked off their fall headlining tour, which continues tonight with a gig at Club Congress in Tuscon, AZ.
