Guitarist Cory Wong posted pro-shot video featuring a performance of “Smokeshow.” The 10-minute version which lives up to its name was filmed at The Vic Theatre in Chicago on February 18, 2022.
Cory originally released “Smokeshow” on Vulf Vault 005: Wong’s Cafe, an album produced by the guitarist released on Vulf Records in January. The live take is more than double in length than the studio rendition.
Eddie Barbash starts the Chicago “Smokeshow” with a sax solo before Cory Wong shreds ala Joe Satriani. Bassist Sonny T then drops a funky bassline as the intro to a stellar keyboard solo from Kevin Gastonguay. Wong was also backed by drummer Petar Janjic, percussionist Nêgah Santos and a horn/woodwinds section of Barbash, Kenni Holmen, Sam Greenfield, Jay Webb, Jon Lampley and Michael Nelson.
