Cordovas detailed a new studio album, Destiny Hotel, which is set for release via ATO Records on October 16. The roots rock band also shared the LP’s lead single, “High Feeling,” produced by Black Pumas‘ Adrian Quesada.
The Tennessee-based Cordovas — vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Joe Firstman, keyboardist Sevans Henderson, guitarist/vocalist Lucca Soria and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Toby Weaver — recorded Destiny Hotel in Los Angeles with producer Rick Parker (Beck, Lord Huron). To prepare for the album, Cordovas headed to the artist community of Todos Santos on Mexico’s Baja Peninsula to write, drawing inspiration from such sources as famed mythologist Joseph Campbell, poet/novelist Rainer Maria Rilke and spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle.
The band was also mindful of the lyrics they put into the LP. “We wanted to strike the term ‘want’ from our music—to get rid of all the ‘Baby, baby, baby, I want this, I want that,’ and create something more useful,” Firstman revealed in a statement. “We needed to make sure these were songs we’d be proud to sing forever.”

On the album’s lead single, “High Feeling,” Cordovas tapped Black Pumas’ Adrian Quesada for additional producing and mixing as well as guitar. Quesada also brought in Black Pumas touring vocalists Angela Miller and Lauren Cervantes to round out the track. The song features “references to old country revivals and mid-’60s Dylan,” as per a statement.
