Contest | Umphreys McGee Fall Headphones & Snowcones

Any experienced concertgoer knows that the best place to stand is right in front of the sound guy, so what if you could share his headphone feed? Well now you can. Back in March of 2013 Umphrey’s McGee unveiled a new and innovative concert experience at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, California and the Montbleu in Stateline, Nevada called “Headphones & Snowcones.” The fans lucky enough to partake in this experiment (and subsequent audiences since) were blown away.

Headphones & Snowcones enables fans to enjoy a pristine soundboard mix of the show they’re attending piped wirelessly into their ears through audiophile quality headphones. Named after an old Umphrey’s McGee track that was debuted in 2002 and has only been performed a total of five times, Headphones & Snowcones is available for each show on the band’s upcoming fall tour at a cost of $40 and a $1 credit card deposit. Not only will you get the belt pack and headphones rental, but you’ll also receive an UMLive download of the show after it’s over.

There has been some controversy surrounding this idea (check out an interesting exchange between UM and the Wall Street Journal here), but as far as we can tell it’s only from people who haven’t actually tried the headphones.
