San Francisco’s Con Brio has revealed details of the release of their upcoming debut album entitled Paradise. Their first full-length studio recording will be out on July 15.
Produced by the highly regarded Mario Caldato Jr., the 12-track studio LP was recorded by vocalist Ziek McCarter, guitarist Benjamin Andrews, bassist Jonathan Kirchner, tenor saxophonist Marcus Stephens, trumpeter Brendan Liu and drummer Andrew Laubacher. McCarter is said to have experienced a dream the night before the group went into the studio in which his late Army veteran father, who was killed by police in 2011, said to him, “come with me to paradise.” Ziek described the interaction as “one of the most spiritual moments of my life.”
The ensemble has a number of performances lined up in the coming months, including several dates supporting Grace Potter, as well as festival stops at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Montreal Jazz Fest, Summerfest and FloydFest, among others. Additionally, McCarter will appear with Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe this Saturday, May 7 at The Fillmore in San Francisco for a performance of Prince’s album Dirty Mind.
