While Common has been featured on The Tonight Show previously, Pete Rock made his first visit to the show for last night’s episode. The pair discussed their collaborative album with host Jimmy Fallon and thought this was the perfect year for their first full-length LP considering its the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. “We just wanted to give something fresh and new to the people,” Common explained. Legendary producer, DJ and rapper Pete Rock also revealed just how many records his massive collection contains.

Jimmy Fallon competed with Common and Pete Rock in a new game dubbed “Playlist Playoff.” The host and his guests weighed in on such questions as what song gets everyone at a family reunion up on the dance floor, what song would play every time they entered a room and what is the greatest song of all-time. The Roots drummer Questlove judged the competition.
