On January 26, 2003 Coldplay served as the musical guest on the first episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. The band fronted by performed “Clocks” on the initial installment of the ABC late-night talk show and returned last night to honor the program’s 20th anniversary with a new take on the song.

Host Jimmy Kimmel also brought back Snoop Dogg and George Clooney to reprise their guest appearances on his first show. Martin emerged towards the end of last night’s episode and sat at Kimmel’s desk. The pair exchange pleasantries with Chris Martin recalling Jimmy told him “you guys will never work in television again” after their first performance. Kimmel reminded the singer he actually said, “I said we wanted to have a band on the show that we’d be proud we had on the show in 20 years.”

Chris Martin joked that Coldplay “couldn’t get anything together” for last night’s episode and presented Kimmel with a music box. Jimmy wound up the music box and it started playing “Clocks,” a song that initially appeared on the band’s 2002 album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

The vocalist started singing “Clocks” along with the music box and then took the show’s indoor stage with a full string section and choir. Martin eventually joined his bandmates, Kimmel and Jimmy’s sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez, outside to finish the song.
