Cody Dickinson Recruits Southern Avenue’s Tikyra Jackson For New Single ‘Walk Right In’

North Mississippi Allstars drummer Cody Dickinson announced his solo debut album, Homemade, due out on June 21 via Strong Place Music. Dickinson also shared the single “Walk Right In” featuring Southern Avenue vocalist Tikyra Jackson.

Homemade sees Dickinson reflecting on family. “From an artist who tours constantly, the concept of family comes up often, as you are missing the family you belong to while creating with the family with whom you are performing,” as per a press release. Cody plays with his brother Luther Dickinson in NMA.

The solo record also gives Cody a chance to step into the spotlight so to speak.

“I’ve made a career out of collaborating,” he stated. “If I’m working in film or TV, my job is to support creative people and help them realize their vision. If I’m working as a musician, I’m getting behind the drums and literally backing up someone else. Most of my life has been spent supporting.”

Dickinson played every instrument on Homemade and also handled production and mixing duties, fittingly at his home studio in Mississippi. Also apropos, Cody got a little help from his one-year-old daughter Mavis who provided artwork for the album and adds her voice to the track “Goodbye Albuquerque Tuesday Night.”

“I recorded that vocal with Mavis in my lap, and she kept grabbing the mic and singing into it, doing these real sassy ad-libs,” Cody recalled. “Her timing was impeccable. She really meant it! What she was singing perfectly fit the theme, too, because that song is about my children and wanting to come home to them.”

Dickinson also brought in Tikyra Jackson from Memphis’ Southern Avenue to provide her vocal expertise on two tracks, “Can’t Feel At Home” and lead single “Walk Right In.” Listen to the latter below:
