Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram Makes National TV Debut On ‘CBS Mornings’

Blues guitarist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram appeared on today’s episode of CBS Mornings in what was his national television debut performances. The 23-year-old axeman sat for an interview and led his band through three songs for this week’s “Saturday Sessions.”
The Clarksdale, Mississippi-bred Ingram recently won the Best Contemporary Blues Album Grammy Award for his 2021 sophomore LP, 662. Christone and his band played the album’s title track and “Long Distance Woman” as well as “Outside Of This Town” from his 2019 debut studio album, Kingfish, on CBS Mornings.

Christone “Kingfish” Ingram was interviewed by Michelle Miller backstage at Harlem’s Apollo Theater. Ingram played the famed venue for the first time on March 31 a few days before he took home the Grammy. “Kingfish” discussed his start in music, surviving a troubled childhood, losing his mother — who was also his manager — just before the pandemic and the future of the blues.
