Chris Stapleton was the musical guest on Wednesday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Stapleton performed the Willie Nelson-popularized, “Living In The Promiseland,” for the late-night television audience.
Stapleton was joined at The Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City by Nelson’s longtime bandmate, harmonica player Mickey Raphael. One of the many Willie Nelson albums Raphael has contributed to includes the 1986 record, The Promiseland, which opened with “Living In The Promiseland.”
The immigration-supporting song was written and later recorded by David Lynn Jones. Nelson’s version topped the Billboard Country Singles chart upon its release 40 years ago.
