Chris Stapleton Gets ‘Higher’ On ‘Colbert’ With Powerful ‘What Am I Gonna Do’ Performance

The singer-songwriter also sat for his first The Late Show interview.

Ten-time Grammy-winning musician Chris Stapleton returned to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Thursday. Stapleton sat for an interview with host Stephen Colbert and ended the episode by performing “What Am I Gonna Do.”

Chris Stapleton brought Stephen Colbert his Traveller Whiskey for a drink to begin his first Late Show interview. Stapleton went on to discuss his start in music, a big phone call he received from Dolly Parton and collaborating with his wife Morgane. Colbert also tapped Stapleton to sing Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home To Me” with him.

“What Am I Gonna Do” is featured on Stapleton’s 2023 album, Higher. The 14-song collection was produced by Dave Cobb, Stapleton and his wife Morgane. The Stapleton dueted on the song backed by Stapleton’s longtime band.

Chris Stapleton will appear at both weekends of the 2024 Austin City Limits Music Festival. Stapleton then embarks on a tour of Ireland the UK later this fall.
