Whether it be the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Blues & Brews or any number of other events the idyllic Colorado ski town offers, Telluride has always been a place ripe for great collaborations. One of the relatively newer festivals the town has put on of late is The Ride Festival, where Chris Robinson sat in with both Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and The String Cheese Incident on this date in 2018.
Sunday, July 15 marked the final performances of the two-day event and carried a killer lineup that also included Grace Potter and Dhani Harrison. Robinson was there to perform with the Chris Robinson Brotherhood. The CRB performed earlier in the day with JRAD and SCI the last two bands on the bill.

JRAD counted as the penultimate performers of the festival and were playing without keyboardist Marco Benevento. Leftover Salmon’s Erik Deutsch subbed in on keys in a set that kicked off with a “Reuben & Cerise” into “Throwing Stones.” “The Music Never Stopped” came next, which contained “Black Peter” teases from guitarist Tom Hamilton, ahead of “Brown-Eyed Women” and “Easy Wind.” Robinson would come out with the band for their final song after a massive “Help On The Way”/”Slipknot!” section that contained “Space” before heading back into a “Slipnot Reprsie” ahead of “Samson & Delilah.” Robinson helped JRAD out on vocals for a spirited “Bertha” to close out the set.
The String Cheese Incident would then take the stage to close out the festival. Their set got underway with “Can’t Wait Another Day “ ahead of a “Get Tight” into “Don’t It Make You Wanna Dance” section. “Born On The Wrong Planet” followed before “Vertigo” led into “It Is What It Is.” Robinson would reappear to lead SCI through the Al Green-penned, Talking Heads covered “Take Me To The River.” Cheese continued with “Piece of Mine” and a massive “Black Clouds” into “Beautiful” to bring the festival to a close.
