Robinson fronted a band consisting of The CRB keyboardist Adam MacDougall, multi-instrumentalists Ethan Miller and Isaiah Mitchell and drummer Justin Smith for two sets focusing on a series of garage rock classics from the ’60s.
The first set included takes on The Chocolate Watchband’s “Are You Gonna Be There (At The Love-In),” Rufus Thomas’s “Walking The Dog,” Chuck Berry’s “Carol,” The Leaves’ “Hey Joe,” Canned Heat’s “Amphetamine Annie,” Love’s “My Little Red Book,” Boyce/Hart’s “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone” and blues standard “Train Kept A-Rollin’.” Last night’s second set featured covers of Count Five’s “Psychotic Reaction,” The Chocolate Watchband’s “Sweet Young Thing,” Canned Heat’s “Boogie Music,” Muddy Waters’ “I’m A King Bee” and more. For the encore, Robinson & Co. said farewell with takes on Moby Grape’s “Hey Grandma” and Question Mark & The Mysterians’ “96 Tears.”
