Chris Forsyth Announces Fall 2022 Co-Headlining Tour With Meg Baird

Chris Forsyth will team up with Meg Baird for eight co-headlining tour dates this fall. Forsyth also unveiled his cover of Richard and Linda Thompson’s “You’re Going To Need Somebody,” one of seven tracks featured on the Philadelphia-based guitarist’s new album, Evolution Here We Come.

Both Chris Forsyth and Meg Baird will utilize the same backing band for the trek consisting of bassist Doug McCombs, drummer Ryan Jewell and guitarist Charlie Saufley. Chris and Meg start the tour at Café Nine in New Haven, Connecticut on October 26. Additional stops follow in Brooklyn; Kingston, New York; Philadelphia; Detroit; Milwaukee and Minneapolis. The excursion concludes with a concert at The Hideout in Chicago on November 4.

Evolution Here We Come arrives this Friday, August 26 via No Quarter. Chris Forsyth tapped Dave Harrington to contribute and co-produce the follow-up to 2019’s All Time Present. Forsyth recorded the LP in Richmond, Virginia with McCombs, Jewell and guitarist Tom Malach (Garcia Peoples) serving as his core band. Additional guests include Marshall Allen (Sun Ra) and Bill Nace (Body/Head).

Richard and Linda Thompson originally issued “You’re Going To Need Somebody” on their 1979 studio album, Sunnyvista. Chris Forsyth recruited Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate) and Linda Pitmon (The Baseball Project) to provide backing vocals and Nick Millevoi to play lap steel on his rendition.

“Musically [it’s] totally lean and kinda perfect, no waste, but it’s the lyrics that really resonate,” Forsyth explained regarding his decision to the cover the tune. “The song could be about love, but I think it’s more accurate to say it’s about faith. There’s a subtle difference there but it’s important, and I just feel like it’s a song I can sing with conviction because I believe it.”
