Charlie Starr Guests With Gov’t Mule In Cincinnati

Gov’t Mule continued a run of shows with Blackberry Smoke on Thursday night surrounding both bands’ appearances at this year’s Lockn’ Festival. Thursday’s show took place at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati and once again Charlie Starr of BBS joined Mule for the encore.
Blackberry Smoke opened in Cincinnati ahead of a lengthy set from headliners Gov’t Mule. The old school pairing of “World Boss” and “Blind Man In The Dark” led into an impressive sequence of “Inside Outside Woman Blues” > “Broke Down On The Brazos” > “Tributary Jam.” Up next was “Birth Of The Mule” before “Traveling Tune” off the recently released Revolution Come…Revolution Go. Warren Haynes & Co. then served up a rare cover of “Long As I Can See The Light” by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Mule’s set continued on with “Mr. Big” followed by two songs which Warren contributed to the Allman Brothers Band, “Rocking Horse” and “Kind Of Bird.” The quartet then focused on Revolution Come…Revolution Go material with a string of “Dreams & Songs,” “Stone Cold Rage” and “Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground” ahead of a set-closing cover of Al Green’s “I’m A Ram.” For the encore, Mule and Charlie Starr teamed for two songs from the Allman Brothers Band’s live repertoire: “Come & Go Blues” and “Statesboro Blues.”
