Weeks ago, Lollapalooza organizers updated the schedule for this year’s event that got underway yesterday at Chicago’s Grant Park. The new itinerary was notable for moving rising pop star Chappell Roan from a side stage to one of the festival’s main stages, where she drew a massive crowd on the first day of the three-day event.
The need to prepare for a larger audience followed Chappell Roan’s recent huge draws during her performances at Governor’s Ball and Bonnaroo. Roan’s move to the T-Mobile main stage bumped Kesha to the smaller IHG Hotels & Resorts stage.

Sporting wrestling-inspired stage attire, Chappell Roan’s stage setup included a wrestling ring surrounding her drummer Lucy Ritter. Also onstage were bodybuilders lift weights who were recruited from the nearby Chicago-based gym Rockwell Barbell. Among the bodybuilders was Inez Carrasquillo, who is considered the strongest woman in North America.
“It was terrifying,” Carrasquillo told Block Club Chicago. “How many people were actually in the audience? It was absolutely insane. I never expected in my life to be in front of so many people before, and it was just exciting.”
“Femininomenon” launched Chappell Roan’s Lolla set and was one of 10 songs from her 2023 album The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess played for the sea of fans. An enormous dance-along occurred mid-set during “Hot To Go” with the audience spelling out the chorus with arms above their heads.
Roan’s recently released hit single, “Good Luck, Babe!,” set up the final song of her main stage performance. The set closed with one of the album’s standout tracks, “My Kink Is My Karma.”
Prior to performing the song, the 26-year-old from Willard, Missouri, spoke directly into one of the cameras capturing her set and said:
“I dedicate this song to my ex. He was bragging that they dated me at the bar in my hometown. This is a message for your fiance: you should break up!”
Commanding an encore, Roan returned to cap her Lolla appearance with “Pink Pony Club.” Watch the full set and other clips below:
