R.E.M., moe. & Luscious Jackson Among Artists Contributing To 279-Song ‘Caverns Of Gold’ Compilation For WNC Hurricane Relief

A massive new compilation entitled Caverns of Gold: A Benefit for WNC Hurricane Relief has been released to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Helene. The 279-song collection features tracks from R.E.M., moe., Luscious Jackson, Leftover Salmon, Papadosio, , North Mississippi Allstars with Oteil Burbridge and Grahame Lesh, Bloodkin and many others.

Asheville music scene veterans Joe Hooten, Alex Deutsch, Kelly Minnis, Jason Bugg and Chad Nance were inspired by the success of the similar Cardinals At The Window compilation and began recruiting Western North Carolina-based acts to contribute to a more local-focused set. Songs came in from hundreds of artists spanning several genres and the team expanded the scope to include acts from beyond the region. All proceeds from Caverns Of Gold will benefit nonprofit BeLoved Asheville.

“This collaboration emphasizes not only the depth of local artistry but also the collective commitment from musicians at all levels to support those in need in Western North Carolina,” said the Caverns Of Gold team in a press release.

Some of the contributors reached into their archives for the tracks contributed to the compilation. R.E.M. shared a live performance of “Feeling Gravity’s Pull” from a 1989 concert in Greensboro, moe. unveiled a “Wind It Up” recorded live in Asheville in 2016, NMAS contributed a “Bid You Goodnight” performed live with Oteil Burbridge and Grahame Lesh and Luscious Jackson chose a live version of “City Song.”

Kevn Kinney, Sol Driven Train, Acoustic Syndicate, The Grapes, Jerry Joseph, BoDeans, Larry Keel, Tyler Ramsey, The Feelies and Here Come the Mummies are more of the artists who gave tracks to the projects. Others featured include , Dangermuffin, Steep Canyon Rangers, John Moreland, Southern Culture on the Skids and David Childers.
