The California Honeydrops and singer-songwriter Miko Marks were guests on the latest episode of eTown. For the finale on the nationaly syndicated radio program out of Boulder, Colorado, the artists teamed for a cover of Sam Cooke’s “That’s Where It’s At.”
Soul legend Sam Cooke’s “That’s Where It’s At” arrived as a single in September 1964, just months before his untimely death in December of that year. Cooke was a common influence for California Honeydrops and Miko Marks. “That’s Where It’s At” specifically was a song both Marks and the band were familiar with, prompting the eTown play.

California Honeydrops’ Lech Wierzynski detailed the collab in the introduction to the eTown video:
“We started talking about Sam Cooke… she had been studying [‘That’s Where It’s At’] so she had learned it the way Sam Cooke did it. We had been doing that song for a long time but in a different rhythm and so it was really fun to get with her and she was showing me all the little runs so we could get it together just right. You know, when you meet with musicians and you’re coming from the same kind of roots and you share some of that, it’s just such a joy.”
“Singing with Lech and being with the California Honeydrops was amazing,” Marks added. “Our voices just connected right away and so many people after the show told me that I need to do more music with him so we shall see.”
