Butcher Brown announced a new album, Letters From the Atlantic, arriving on March 28 via Concord Jazz. The band previewed the record with the single “Ibiza.”

Letters From The Atlantic follows Butcher Brown’s acclaimed 2023 LP, Solar Music. The band recorded the new album at Spacebomb Studios in Richmond, Virginia with Alex De Jong.

“We want this full record to feel like you’re floating on a trip,” the band stated. “It’s taking you on a journey, and you can determine what each song reminds you of. It’s a story of everything we listen to, capturing nostalgia for Virginia, the East Coast and overseas. We’re pulling sounds from across the Atlantic.”

Butcher Brown welcomes several guest on the new album including Yaya Bey, Melanie Charles, Leanor Wolf, Mia Gladstone, Victoria Victoria, Nicholas Payton and Neal Francis.

“Our session with Yaya Bey was special because she came down to Richmond – we sat down and chopped it up for hours before recording together,” the band said of the collab. “You can feel that family energy on ‘I Remember,’ like laid back kicking it at a barbeque on the Fourth of July. That’s the important part about being in person for sessions is you just want to vibe with the person. We’re more concerned with that than anything, and it comes across on that song.”

Keyboardist Neal Francis appears on the yacht-rock tinged “Something New About You.” Melanie Charles guests on “Unwind,” a song “straight up Avenue C, Lower East Side in New York with those downtown feels,” as per a press release. The album’s closer, “Infant Eyes,” is an homage to late jazz great Wayne Shorter.

Butcher Brown previously shared the Letter From the Atlantic single, “Montrose Forest,” featuring Nicholas Payton, and now follow with “Ibiza,” which the band detailed:

“We recorded that joint with the idea of it tapping into something you’d hear in a dance club in New York or the UK. We’re all producers, so we’re thinking of the samples a DJ would find and chop up into a groove – but do it all live, no samples, reimagining it in our own way. There was something magical about the recording of this song, cosmic is the only way to describe that feeling. The excitement and joy everyone felt listening back in the control room was a clear sign we should get this out to the world. We hope ‘Ibiza’ takes you somewhere warm and offers a level of comfort.”
