More Bust Outs For Umphrey’s McGee In Richmond

Chicago sextet Umphrey’s McGee kicked off a two-night stand at The National in Richmond, Virginia on Saturday night as part of the band’s cross-country tour with TAUK. Umphrey’s treated fans in Richmond to three songs that hadn’t been played in at least 94 shows.

The six-piece continues to dust off older intros as “October Rain” started a show for the first time since August 14, 2015. Seven songs into the first set, Umphrey’s busted out “Bad Poker” which had last been performed on November 6, 2014 (118 shows). “Nothing Too Fancy” led off the second set and gave way to “White Man’s Moccasins.” The bust outs kept coming as later in the set UM segued from “Wife Soup” into a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” which had been on the shelf since February 7, 2015. After the Bruce cover, the band transitioned back into “Wife Soup” complete with “I’m On Fire” teases.

One of the improvisational highlights of the night came at the end of the second set, when UM worked a “Mind Left Body” jam into an already impressive “Hurt Bird Bath.” The evening came to a close with a cover of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Lenny” (last played October 31, 2014) which gave way to the end of “Nothing Too Fancy.” Umphrey’s McGee and TAUK continue their tour tonight in Richmond, Virginia.
