Bush rose to the Tiny Desk Concert challenge by reshaping two hits, a deep cut and the title track of their 2025 album for their debut appearance on NPR’s beloved video series.
Frontman Gavin Rossdale and bandmates guitarist Chris Traynor, bassist Corey Blitz, keyboardist Joshy Soul and drummer Nik Hughes kicked off their visit to NPR Music’s Washington D.C. headquarters by unveiling a fresh take on “Machinehead.” The 1996 smash off Bush’s debut album, Sixteen Stone, was played with a more measured pace than the intense original.
Bush stuck with Sixteen Stone material for the “Glycerine” that followed. Soul introduced the song on piano before Gavin Rossdale came in to sing the powerful vocals, at times completely a capella. The piano accompaniment served the new arrangement of “Glycerine” well as did Rossdale’s fuzzed-out guitar.
Next up was a haunting take on Golden State (2001) cut “Out Of This World.” Bush hadn’t performed the ethereal song since 2002 as per Setlist.FM statistics. The band punctuated their Tiny Desk debut by barrelling through “I Beat Loneliness,” the anthemic title track from their 2025 album.
