[UPDATE] Bruce Springsteen & E Street Band Perform ‘Purple Rain’ In Brooklyn

Last night, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band brought The River Tour to Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the first of two shows at the arena. The concert began with The Boss paying tribute to The Purple One, as Springsteen lead the ensemble through a cover of a well-known Prince original.

Rather than begin the show Saturday night with the typical tour opener, The River outtake “Meet Me In The City,” Bruce instead took the stage draped in purple lights and offered a powerful cover of “Purple Rain.” After the tribute featuring a solo by guitarist Nils Lofgren, and before launching into a full performance of the 1980 double album The River, Springsteen exclaimed “Prince forever! God bless!”

The rest of the evening saw Bruce and band run through such favorites as “Badlands,” “Thunder Road,” “Born To Run,” “Dancing In The Dark,” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out,” among several others.
