Bruce Springsteen continues to make good on his promise to change up setlists on his recently resumed world tour with the E Street Band. The Boss fit four 2024 tour debuts into his show last night at San Diego’s Pechanga Arena including the first “My City Of Ruins” in over seven years.

Springsteen recently called into SiriusXM’s E Street Radio and told host Jim Rotolo he’s going with a different approach this year as the tour picks up following his health issues. “We’re approaching it like it’s a new tour,” Springsteen explained. “There will be some things from last year’s tour that will hold over, some of my basic themes of mortality and life and those things, you know, I’m going to keep set.”

“I think I’m gonna move around the other parts of the set a lot more, so there’ll be a much wider song selection going on,” Springsteen added. “So we’re looking at it like, you know, it’s a little bit of the old tour, but we’re looking at it like a new tour.”

Bruce Springsteen wrote “My City Of Ruins,” which appears on his 2002 album The Rising, about Asbury Park. The Boss and his ensemble will perform in the New Jersey beach town this September, when they headline the 2024 Sea.Hear.Now Festival.

The first “My City Of Ruins” since February 25, 2017 came in the eight-slot last night in San Diego. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band delivered an extended version of the song that saw The Boss do a “roll call” and shout out the members of the group.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band opened with “Lonesome Day” as they did at the first show of the tour in Phoenix last week. The initial 2024 debut arrived a few songs later as The Boss treated fans to Wrecking Ball (2012) cut “Death To My Hometown.” As noted “My City Of Ruins” was played as the eighth song of the night. The rest of the main set featured a similar selection of tunes that were played at the tour opener in Phoenix and this past Friday night in Las Vegas.

The 74-year-old musician and his 17-piece ensemble kicked off the seven-song encore in San Diego by performing the “Detroit Medley” for the first time this year. The medley combined portions of Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels’ “Devil With A Blue Dress On,” “Good Golly Miss Molly” and “Jenny Take A Ride” with “C.C. Rider.” Classics “Born To Run” and “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)” followed ahead of the 2024 debut of Born In The U.S.A.’s “Bobby Jean.” A run of “Dancing In The Dark,” “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” and “I’ll See You In My Dreams” brought the concert to a close.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band bring the tour to California next for two-night stands in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The tour continues through November. Find all dates by scrolling below.
