Bruce Springsteen Covers ‘London Calling’ In London: Pro-Shot Video
By Nate Todd Jan 15, 2020 • 12:25 pm PST

Bruce Springsteen shared pro-shot video of The E Street Band’s cover of “London Calling” by The Clash. The performance is from London’s Hyde Park in 2009.
“London Calling” is off of The Clash’s landmark 1979 double LP of the same name. The record saw the punk pioneers moving toward a more straightforward rock sound. Springsteen and The Clash both spoke out on socio-political issues and were champions of the working class; so there was a natural affinity between the artists. Clash frontman Joe Strummer penned a letter in the late-1990s talking about his admiration for Bruce. The Boss has covered The Clash’s “Clampdown” and “I Fought The Law” as well as Strummer’s “Coma Girl.” In 2003, Springsteen would join Elvis Costello and Dave Grohl to perform “London Calling” in tribute to Strummer at the Grammys shortly after his death.
