Bruce Springsteen Confirms ‘Springsteen On Broadway’ Run
Rocker Bruce Springsteen will play the tiny Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway in New York City for eight weeks of solo shows. The Boss will preview the Springsteen On Broadway run starting on October 3 with the official opening night set for October 12. Springsteen On Broadway will run five nights a week through November 26.
“I chose Broadway for this project because it has the beautiful old theaters which seemed like the right setting for what I have in mind,” Mr. Springsteen said in a statement via the New York Times. “In fact, with one or two exceptions, the 960 seats of the Walter Kerr Theater is probably the smallest venue I’ve played in the last 40 years.”
The format of the shows, which will take place at a venue that holds less than 1,000 people, will be solo performances from Springsteen. Bruce will also read excerpts from his recently released autobiography, Born To Run. “My show is just me, the guitar, the piano and the words and music,” The Boss said. “Some of the show is spoken, some of it is sung. It loosely follows the arc of my life and my work.”
One of the big questions about the run is how tickets would work. Organizers will use Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program in an attempt to spoil the work of those using bots and high-end scalpers. Ticketmaster will ask those looking to purchase tickets to register in advance at which point the company will look at the potential buyer’s purchase history and social media activity in an attempt to prove they are real. Registration starts today and closes on August 27. Those who score tickets will be told on August 29 ahead of the on-sale one day later. Prices range from $75 to $850.
