Bruce Springsteen & Barack Obama Launch Spotify Podcast
President Barack Obama and rocker Bruce Springsteen recorded eight episodes of a new podcast for Spotify entitled Renegades: Born In The USA. The news was revealed today during Spotify’s Stream On event and the first two installments of the podcast have been shared.
The pair recorded their new podcast at Springsteen’s home in New Jersey. Bruce and the former president discuss their “lives, music and enduring love of America,” as per Spotify.
“On the surface Bruce and I don’t have a lot in common. He’s a white guy from a small town in Jersey, I’m a black guy of mixed race born in Hawaii,” President Obama said in the first episode. “But over the years, what we’ve found is that we’ve got a shared sensibility. About work, about family and about America. In our own ways, Bruce and I have been on parallel journeys trying to understand this country that’s given us both so much. Trying to chronicle the stories of its people. Looking for a way to connect our own individual searches for meaning and truth and community with the larger story of America.”
President Obama and Bruce Springsteen speak on their experiences with race and racism for the episode “American Skin: Race In The United States,” while the pair discusses how they first met and evolving from outsiders to insiders for the episode “Outsiders: An Unlikely Friendship.”
Spotify partnered with President Obama and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground, for the new podcast. The streaming company also announced Spotify HiFi, a high-quality music experience for Premium users. Spotify will roll out Spotify HiFi in select markets later this year.
