Each year since 1986, with the exception of 1987, Neil & Pegi Young have hosted the Bridge School Benefit concerts at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California to raise funds for the school which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. The concerts will not be held in 2017 with Neil and Pegi each issuing letters about the news.
While Pegi starts off her message with word the concerts will not be held in 2017, Neil’s letter seems to indicate he is finished hosting the Bridge School benefits. Neil cites “personal reasons” as to why he “will no longer be hosting The Bridge School concert.” He thanks many of those who have helped put the benefits on each year including his ex-wife, Pegi. The legendary rocker notes he will continue on with fund raising efforts and mentions, “We have earned millions of dollars and the school is stable financially, able to go forward although we still need an endowment and would welcome one.”
Though neither Pegi or Neil discusses the future of the event beyond 2017, Pegi wrote “Because our mission is of such great importance to so many, we proceed onward with optimism into the future. Stay tuned for updates as we begin to shape what the next steps will be in reaching our endowment goals.” She also uses her message to thank many of those involved with the event including Neil.
Neil Young has taken a hiatus from performing in 2017. His recently-announced appearance at Farm Aid in September is Young’s first confirmed performance of the year. Last year’s Bridge School Benefit Concerts took place on October 22 and 23 featuring Neil Young, Metallica, Roger Waters, Dave Matthews, My Morning Jacket and others. Head to the Bridge School’s website to read Neil and Pegi Young’s notes in their entirety.
