Iconic recording artist and producer Brian Eno will release a new album entitled The Ship on Warp Records on April 29. Today, the first single from the new record has been made available to stream.
Made up of just two songs, the follow-up to Eno’s 2012 solo album LUX features a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “I’m Set Free,” as the third movement of the three-part “Fickle Sun” suite. It also includes the just-issued 21-minute lead single and title track which opens the LP.
“The piece started as an Ambient work intended for a multi channel sound installation in Stockholm, but during the making of it I discovered that I could now sing a low C – which happens to be the root note of the piece,” said Eno regarding the song. “Getting older does have a few fringe benefits after all. From that point the work turned into an unusual kind of song…a type I’ve never made before where the vocal floats free, untethered to a rhythmic grid of any kind.”

Coinciding with the album’s release, Eno-designed multi-channel three-dimensional sound installations will be presented around the world, offering an “alternative telling of The Ship.” The Ship is available to pre-order from Warp Records.
