Brendan Bayliss Performs Umphrey’s McGee Originals & Covers For ‘Wine Not’ Livestream

Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Brendan Bayliss continued his Wine Not? livestream series on Friday. Bayliss would deliver songs from the UM catalog as well as a slew of covers.

Friday’s livestream saw Brendan switching up the venue from the desk in his basement to the couch in his basement. Still in his PJs, but sans mustache, Bayliss kicked things off by wishing his wife and livestream director Annie Bayliss a happy birthday followed by Umphrey’s McGee’s “Words.” Brendan prefaced the song by saying he had never done it by himself, “let alone without a mustache.” The Pixies anthem “Where Is My Mind” followed ahead of more UM material in “No Diablo” which led into Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir.” Next up, Bayliss dedicated the 30db song “Backfire” to his band mate in that project, the late great Jeff Austin.

Brendan continued with Yusuf/Cat Stevens’ “Father & Son” before Annie joined him on the Stevie Nicks-penned Fleetwood Mac classic “Landslide.” More Umphrey’s in “You & You Alone” followed. Brendan and UM guitarist Jake Cinninger debuted the song at Park West in Chicago as a duo in 2014 but a full band version wasn’t unveiled until 2018, interestingly at the same venue, as per All Things Umphreys. The Ween rocker “Transdermal Celebration” came next before the Umphrey’s McGee classic “FF,” which segued into The Kinks’ “Black Messiah” ahead of The Beatles’ “Blackbird.”

Bayliss would close out the session on piano with a rendition of Radiohead’s “Karma Police.” Watch the entire livestream below:
