Shawn Colvin & Ruby Amanfu Join Brandi Carlile At Girls Just Wanna Weekend

By Andy Kahn Jan 31, 2019 10:17 am PST

Brandi Carlile was joined onstage by Shawn Colvin and Ruby Amanfu during the first night of her Girls Just Wanna Weekend destination event. The pair of guests are part of the lineup for the inaugural festival taking place at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Carlile first brought out Amanfu near the middle of her main set. They collaborated on Carlile’s rarely played “Shadow On The Wall” from 2007’s The Story. Amanfu recorded a version of the song for the 10th anniversary benefit compilation, Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates 10 Years Of The Story – An Album To Benefit War Child.

Carlile’s set also saw takes on songs from her 2018 album By The Way, I Forgive You such as “Harder to Forgive,” “The Joke” and a solo version of “The Mother.” Carlile worked in covers of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You” and Elton John’s “Madman Across The Water.” Colvin, who recently joined the event’s lineup in place of Patty Griffin, came out a few songs later to assist on a cover of Jane Siberry’s “Calling All Angels.” Carlile purportedly had not covered the song in several years.
