Brandi Carlile covered Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” while making an appearance on Monday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The singer-songwriter was also interviewed by the show’s host, Stephen Colbert, and performed the song “This Time Tomorrow” from her recently released album, In These Silent Days.
Carlile’s visit to New York City’s Ed Sullivan Theater followed her sold-out concert on Saturday at Carnegie Hall, which was a tribute to Mitchell’s 1971 album, Blue. That event included Carlile leading a rendition of “Happy Birthday To You” in honor of Mitchell, who turned 78 on Sunday.
Carlile talked about the experience at Carnegie Hall, which was her second time performing Blue in its entirety. Carlile and Colbert discussed their favorite songs on the album. Carlile revealed that after the show she celebrated by taking a shot of tequila and then FaceTimed with Mitchell.
