The fourth annual BottleRock Napa Valley music festival was held last weekend in front of a capacity crowd at the Napa Valley Expo in Napa, California. Legendary veteran musicians Buddy Guy and headliner Stevie Wonder highlighted Friday’s slate of performances. Friday’s action also featured pop guitarist Lenny Kravitz, seasoned jamtronica act Particle, roots rockers Michael Franti & Spearhead and several others.
On Saturday, headliners Florence + The Machine worked a cover of Neil Young’s “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” into their main stage set while Pacific Northwest alt-rock outfit Death Cab For Cutie offered a career-spanning set of originals. Ziggy Marley and Iration brought a reggae vibe to Saturday’s festivities which also included an appearance by Bay Area psychedelic band Moonalice and many more. Marley performed “One Love” in tribute to his father Bob Marley, while Moonalice was joined by Melissa Etheridge for covers of “Summertime Blues” and “Me & Bobby McGee.”
The final day of BottleRock was capped by the rocking headlining set by Red Hot Chili Peppers which including the live debut of the title track off the band’s upcoming new album The Getaway alongside many of the band’s most well-known songs. Earlier in the day the event’s four stages were filled at various times by the likes of acoustic duo Rodrigo y Gabriela who were joined by Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo Brooklyn-based funk group Pimps Of Joytime, Houston soul outfit The Suffers, L.A.’s rhythm masters Ozomatli, throwback rockers Langhorne Slim & The Law and a number of others.
