The Avett Brothers were among the performers at this past weekend’s Bonnaroo festival. Bassist Bob Crawford used the opportunity of appearing at the Manchester, Tennessee music festival to record an episode of Osiris podcast “The Road To Now” featuring Bonnaroo co-founder Ashley Capps with co-host Ben Sawyer.

Capps of AC Entertainment co-founded Bonnaroo with Superfly Productions out of New Orleans. Ashley discusses how the partners found the site in Manchester, Tennessee that hosted the first festival in 2002 and has hosted each Bonnaroo since. The Knoxville-based promoter explains the state of the festival scene when they were putting the inaugural event together, why they focused on jam acts at the beginning and how they came up with the name Bonnaroo.

Crawford and The Avett Brothers have performed at Bonnaroo a number of times over the years starting 2006. Bob describes his experience in watching the festival grow and shares some of his favorite moments. Capps goes on to talk about the relationships he’s created with artists, the local government and the community that has formed around Bonnaroo.
