The newly renamed The Chris Thile Show (formerly known as A Prairie Home Companion) was held Saturday at The Town Hall in New York City. Guests joining mandolin-playing host Chris Thile on the public radio program included Bon Iver and Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn.
Banjo playing wife/husband duo Washburn and Fleck performed “Over The Divide,” the opening track from their recently issued collaborative album, and the LP’s closer “Bloomin’ Rose.” Later in the show they played fellow songs from Down In The Valley, “My Home’s Across The Blue Ridge Mountains” and “Take Me to Harlan.” Fleck and Thile then dueted on “Bluggers.” Washburn and Fleck also participated in the “Musician Birthdays” segment that featured a portion “Midnight Rider” in honor of the late The Allman Brothers Band co-founder Gregg Allman.
Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon appeared with the group’s saxophonist Mike Lewis and played song from last year’s 22, A Million. Vernon led a rendition of “____45_____” and was joined by Thile and Richard Dworsky & The Show Band on “29 #Strafford APTS.” Vernon later led renditions of “22 (OVER S∞∞N)” and “715 – CR∑∑KS.”
