By Andy Kahn May 10, 2018 • 8:24 am PDT

Tuareg guitarist Bombino will issue a new album Deran on May 18 via Partisan Records. NPR Music’s First Listen series has made the record available to stream in advance of next week’s official release.
Bombino leader, guitarist Omara Moctar, worked with his manager Eric Herman to produce Deran. Bombino’s supporting band mates, keyboardist Mohammed Araki, bassist Youba Dia, guitarist Illias Mohammed, percussionist Hassan Krifa and drummer Corey Wilhelm, contributed to the recording sessions held at Studio HIBA in Morocco. The 10-song album features Moctar singing entirely in the Tuareg language of Tamashek.
