Bob Weir Welcomes Tom Hamilton & Joe Russo And Officiates Wedding In Philadelphia

On Wednesday night Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir continued his Campfire Tour at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia. The evening came to a close with a rousing version of “Not Fade Away” featuring special guests Joe Russo and Tom Hamilton. Weir also officiated a wedding while he was at the venue.

As per The Key (Hat Tip – L4LM), Bob Weir stepped up to officiate the wedding of Philly Live Nation chief Geoff Gordon and his wife Sayeeda Gordon. In addition to the concert, the evening was a celebration of Geoff’s 50th birthday. He surprised all by marrying Sayeeda at a setbreak gathering with Bobby doing the honors of officiating:

Bobby started the show with a selection of solo acoustic performances including the tour debut of “Walkin’ Blues” as well as a cover of Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece” and the title track from the recently released Blue Mountain. He then welcomed his band for the tour of Steve Kimock, Jon Shaw, Bryan Devendorf, Josh Kaufman and Scott Devendorf for a first set focusing on material from Blue Mountain, plus the tour debut of “Dark Hollow.”

The second set began with the tour’s first “Me & Bobby McGee” before Weir led the ensemble through a take on Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried.” Bob and his band then played a series of Grateful Dead classics to form the rest of the second set, namely “He’s Gone,” “Althea,” “Playing In The Band” and “Looks Like Rain.” A reprise of “Playing” brought the second set to a close.

For the encore, Bob treated the crowd to a solo version of Blue Mountain’s “Ki-Yi Bossie” and then brought out Hamilton and Russo for the “Not Fade Away” finale. Joe Russo was the drummer for Weir’s Furthur project for the band’s entire run, while Russo’s Joe Russo’s Almost Dead band mate Tom Hamilton performed with Bobby a few times last year when Weir was the guest of Billy & The Kids.

The Bob Weir Campfire Tour continues tomorrow in Brooklyn.
