Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir will release a solo album Blue Mountain this Friday, September 30. In support of the 12-song LP that champions Weir’s long running adoration of country influenced songs, on Tuesday Bobby held an acoustic in-store performance at Amoeba Records in Hollywood, California.
Following a cover of the blues standard “Walkin’ Blues” and Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” Weir offered a take on the title track to his first record of completely new original music since 1978. After “Blue Mountain” the album’s producer Josh Kaufman came to the stage to assist on electric guitar on Blue Mountain cuts “Only A River” and “Lay My Lily Down,” as well as the traditional “Peggy-O.”
The pair also delivered another song from the LP, as “Ki-Yi Bossie” made it into the set. Not aired as part of the livestream, the in-store audience was also treated to a pre-set performance by Weir and Kaufman of a cover of “KC Moan.” Below watch audience-shot video highlights of the performance at Amoeba.
