Bob Weir To Perform With David Nelson Band In Alaska

As reported, renowned guitarist David Nelson canceled several concert appearances as he undergoes treatment for colon cancer. The David Nelson Band has confirmed they will be joined by Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir for their three upcoming sold-out shows in Alaska.

Bobby will fill-in for David at the Sitzmark at the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska on March 16, 17 and 18. Weir will join DNB members Barry Sless, John Molo, Pete Sears and Mookie Siegel, along with Katie Skene.

The message announcing Weir’s addition noted his longtime friendship with Nelson, who co-founded the New Riders Of The Purple Sage in the early-1960s with Jerry Garcia and others. Here’s footage of Bobby and David performing “The Race Is On” together at a benefit in 1986:
