Bob Weir Guests With John Mayer In Sacramento

John Mayer continued his The Search For Everything Tour on Thursday night at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. Mayer welcomed his Dead & Company band mate Bob Weir for an unplugged duet as part of the acoustic portion of the night and then for a Bob Dylan cover as part of the full band reprise section of the show.

The guitarist and his full band started the night with a string of five songs that included “Moving On & Getting Over,” “Something Like Olivia,” “Helpless,” “I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)” and “Changing.” Mayer then began the acoustic mini-set with “Emoji Of A Wave” and “Your Body Is A Wonderland.” Next, Weir emerged to duet with John on the Grateful Dead classic “Friend Of The Devil.” Last night’s “Friend Of The Devil” was the fourth of the tour for John Mayer, but the first with a guest.

Last night’s John Mayer show continued with a three-song set from the John Mayer Trio. Up first were blues standards “Every Day I Have The Blues” and “Crossroads” which was followed by Mayer’s own “Vultures.” At this point the full band returned, as did Bob Weir, and the ensemble lit into “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” by Bob Dylan. John’s band did a version not too far afield from the way Dead & Company cover “Knockin’.”

After Weir vacated the stage, Mayer and his band rolled through four more songs, with David Ryan Harris’s rendition of “The Beautiful Ones” thrown in as well, to bring the main set to a close. John encored with “Born & Raised” and “Gravity” before ending the show with a solo piano “You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me.” Mayer’s tour continues at Shoreline on Saturday.
