Bob Weir’s ‘Brunch With Bobby’ Set Featuring Steve Kimock At Peach Fest 2013

Tonight Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir begins his “Campfire Tour” in support of his just issued solo album Blue Mountain. In advance of Bobby heading out on his own this evening, this week’s Full Show Friday examines a solo performance Weir held at the Peach Music Festival in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 2013.
Joining Weir on the tour will be the just added duo of guitarist Steve Kimock and bassist Jon Shaw as well as guitarist Josh Kaufman (who co-produced Blue Mountain), and The National’s drummer Bryan Devendorf and multi-instrumentalist Scott Devendorf. A family emergency forced the Devendorfs’ band mate Aaron Dessner to bow out of the tour which starts close to Weir’s home at the Marin Civic Center in San Rafael, California.
Back on Sunday, August 18, 2013 Bobby played a daytime solo acoustic set as one of several appearances at that year’s Peach Music Festival at Montage Mountain. While it’s unclear if this current tour will include Weir holding down the stage all alone for any portion of the shows, he did at least start his set at the Peach without anyone else on stage beside him. By the end of the performance longtime cohort Kimock had emerged to add a second guitar to a trio of tunes.
The daytime set included Dead staples such as “Loose Lucy” and “Me & My Uncle” as well as the Kimock-aided “Peggy-O” and “Playing In The Band.” Kimock also can be heard on the closing cover of The Temptations’ “Shakey Ground,” while it was all Bobby on other cuts like “Walkin’ Blues,” “City Girls” (which takes a couple of attempts), “KC Moan” and “Big Bad Blues.” Stream the full set thanks to taper Keith Litzenberger below:
