Bob Dylan’s Band Lineup In Flux As Tour Continues

UPDATE: Bob Britt addressed his decision to leave Bob Dylan's band in a Facebook post shared on Monday afternoon.

Bob Dylan has seemingly lost another member of his band as guitarist Bob Britt announced his departure from the group on Saturday with a since-deleted social media post. The latest lineup change comes after guitarist Doug Lancio stepped away from Dylan’s current summer tour earlier this month.

Bob Britt, who had been Dylan’s acoustic guitarist since 2019, shared a post on Facebook that read “Sayonara Bobby” with an image of a plane traveling from Austin to his hometown of Nashville. Austin is the site of Dylan’s next show. When a fan asked Britt for clarification, the guitarist responded “I quit.” The post was later deleted but had already been spotted and circulated by eagle-eyed Dylan fans.

Meanwhile, Doug Lancio has been replaced by acclaimed jazz guitarist Julian Lage for the past seven shows of the Long Hot Summer Tour ’26, dating back to Dylan's show in Santa Barbara on June 17. Doug Lancio first joined Bob Dylan’s band in November of 2021.

Bob Dylan has yet to address the status of Bob Britt or Doug Lancio. Dylan also hasn’t mentioned the inclusion of Julian Lage in his band. A spokesman for the legendary musician told the Los Angeles Times after the Santa Barbara concert “he had no word on whether Lage was a permanent addition to the band.”

Julian Lage has his own show tonight (Monday, June 29) in Brooklyn and a pair of gigs on Saturday, July 4. As such, it’s unclear who will play guitar in Bob Dylan’s band when he continues his tour tonight in Austin.

Bob Dylan’s current band features a rhythm section of Tony Garnier on bass and Anton Fig on drums. The Long Hot Summer Tour ’26 will keep Dylan on the road through August 1.
