The last show founding drummer Brit Turner played with Blackberry Smoke before his tragic death was the band’s 2023 Homecoming Celebration in Atlanta. Blackberry Smoke announced they will honor Brit not being here by taking the year off from their annual Homecoming Weekend tradition.

On August 23, BBS will present a Brit Turner tribute concert at Chastain Park in Atlanta. The show featuring special guests 49 Winchester will be the band’s only Atlanta play of 2024.

“We will miss doing our annual tradition, this year, but we feel that this is the right thing to do,” wrote Blackberry Smoke of the decision to skip the Thanksgiving Weekend performance. “We are working on plans for future Homecoming shows. We will let you all know as soon as possible on what they will look like.”

Blackberry Smoke’s note also revealed they will have a “few more” friends joining them besides 49 Winchester at Chastain Park on August 23. Additionally, they will have a “display on hand to honor Brit and some of the things he was proud of.” The band will also raise funds for a number of causes that were close to Brit’s heart including treatment for and research to end childhood cancer.

Brit Turner passed away on March 3 at age 57 due to glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Kent Aberle has stepped in to play drums with Blackberry Smoke. Tickets for Blackberry Smoke’s Brit Turner tribute concert are on sale now via Livenation.com..
