While Black Pumas formed in 2017, the band’s Grammy-nominated song “Colors” pre-dates Eric Burton teaming up with Adrian Quesada. Black Pumas throwback to a time before the duo came together by sharing a Burton solo “Colors” performance from 2014.

The stripped-down “Colors” was filmed in New Mexico by Ryan Mulvey. A youthful Eric Burton went solo acoustic for his take on a song that would appear on Black Pumas’ self-titled 2019 studio album.

“Colors” was nominated for Record Of The Year and Best American Roots Performance at last weekend’s Grammys. While Black Pumas didn’t take home any trophies, they did turn in a majestic version of “Colors” as part of the telecast.
