The Black Keys will issue a new album entitled Dropout Boogie through Nonesuch Records on May 13. The duo featuring Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney shared the LP’s lead single, “Wild Child,” along with a video for the track directed by longtime collaborator Bryan Schlam.
Auerbach and Carney wrote the songs featured on the follow-up to 2021’s Delta Kream together at Dan’s Easy Eye Sound facility in Nashville, where the album was recorded. Dropout Boogie will arrive one day ahead of the 20th anniversary of The Black Keys’ debut album, The Big Come Up. Contributors include Billy F. Gibbons, Greg Cartwright and Angelo Petraglia.
“Living in Nashville and making records here has opened both of our minds to that experience a little bit more,” noted Auerbach regarding collaborating with other musicians. “I knew Pat would love working with both of these guys, so we decided we’d give it a shot. It was the first time we’d ever really done that. It was fun as hell. We just sat around a table with acoustic guitars and worked out a song ahead of time.”
The Black Keys will soon embark on the Dropout Boogie Tour of North America in support of the album. Watch the video for “Wild Child,” a track featuring Cartwright and Petraglia, below:
