Billy & The Kids At Gathering Of The Vibes Audio & Video Surfaces
As we reported, the 20th annual Gathering Of The Vibes at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut featured a Saturday afternoon set from Billy & The Kids. The set only contained songs that were not performed at any of the five Fare Thee Well – Celebrating 50 Years Of Grateful Dead shows earlier this summer and featured guest spots from Eric Krasno and Warren Haynes.
Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann and his band of bassist Reed Mathis, keyboardist Aron Magner and guitarist Tommy Hamilton took the stage just after 5:30 with “Here Comes Sunshine.” Hamiton sang the opener as he did the “Cold Rain & Snow” that followed. Mathis had his turn fronting the band on “Ramble On Rose” and “Mama Tried” which segued into “Mexicali Blues.” The quartet then played “Greatest Story Ever Told” before welcoming Eric Krasno for “Dancing In The Streets.” Next, Tommy led the group on “Black Muddy River” and “Women Are Smarter.” The 90 minute set came to a close with a cover of The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” featuring special guest Warren Haynes on guitar and vocals.
Taper Ted Gakidis has shared an an audience recording of the entire Billy & The Kids set:
