Billy Strings shared a documentary short on the making of his new album ME/AND/DAD, which he recorded with his father Terry Barber. The film gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at Billy and Terry in the studio, jamming around the campfire and more.

ME/AND/DAD arrived on November 18. The LP contains bluegrass standards and traditionals many of which Terry taught Billy when he was a kid. In the film, Strings and his dad discuss the youngster’s tutelage and the doc also gives a look at father and son performing around the campfire and at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studio alongside their all-star band featuring mandolinist Ron McCoury, banjo player Rob McCoury, fiddler Michael Cleveland and bassist Mike Bub.

Special appearances include Jerry Douglas and Jason Carter as well as Billy’s mom Debra Barber who joins to sing “I Heard My Mother Weeping.” Elsewhere in the film, Billy and Terry discuss guitars, song arrangements and more.

The doc opens with Strings speaking on the importance of the project:

“As long as I can remember, I wanted to make a record with my dad. I’ve been burning up and down the highways the last 12 years, and as time slips away, you start thinking, ‘I need to make time.’ It’s been a bucket list thing for me, something I’ve been afraid I wouldn’t find the time to do. And that scared me; not doing this record scared me.”
