Billy Strings and his father, Terry Barber, released their take on the Lawrence Hammond-penned “John Deere Tractor.” The cover appears on the pair’s forthcoming studio album, ME/AND/DAD, which arrives via Rounder Records on November 18.

“As long as I can remember, I wanted to make a record with my dad. I’ve been burning up and down the highways the last 12 years, and as time slips away, you start thinking, ‘I need to make time,’” Strings said in a statement when the album was announced. “It’s been a bucket list thing for me, something I’ve been afraid I wouldn’t find the time to do. And that scared me; not doing this record scared me.”

Billy Strings co-produced ME/AND/DAD, which was recorded at Sound Emporium Studio in Nashville, with Gary Paczosa. Strings and Barber worked up 14 bluegrass and country gems they’ve been performing together since Billy’s childhood. The pair assembled a backing band consisting of fiddler Michael Cleveland, bassist Mike Bub, mandolinist Ron McCoury and banjoist Rob McCoury. Jerry Douglas and Jason Carter make guest appearances as does Billy’s mother, Debra Barber.

“John Deere Tractor” follows previously released ME/AND/DAD singles “Long Journey Home” and “Life To Go.” Billy Strings and Terry Barber’s version of “John Deere Tractor” is akin to Larry Sparks’ title track from his 1980 album.
